A NEW PATTERN OF STRUCTURAL CHANGE EMERGING IN AFRICA

According to the latest  world bank Africa's pulse report, economic growth in Sub-Saharan Africa is set to slow from 3.6% to 2.5%.

Many reasons have been cited as Africa's slow economic growth. Amid  the growing and complicated challenges, there's hope for change if we adopt a holistic approach to confronting the root cause of issues rather than addressing the problem as a stand alone. Solutions to poor economic growth cannot be based exclusively on economic policies as this is something that goes beyond economics to include among other things social, political and  cultural issues. Systemic problems cannot be addressed in isolation because they are all interconnected. We need structural change.

The existing structures are unstable and not fit for purpose. Data has proven that significant change is unattainable with the current state of affairs.

This calls for new concepts that go against the grain and  are significantly different from what we currently have. It will involve taking into account all the various pieces that influence the economy and these include: a shift in mindsets which will lead to a shift in the set methods of doing things. Due to the complexity of current systemic challenges, we can't solve the problems by simply addressing the symptoms that can be readily observed. This will only intensify the complexity. We need a revolution; an overthrow of current social order in favor of a new pattern.
