INNOVATION IN TIMES OF CRISES; AFRICA’S DEVELOPMENT PATH

While it is true that the African continent has many challenges, it is important we consider that it also has the greatest opportunity with the youngest population in the world. A youthful population constitutes a valuable resource for innovation. Their passion, audacity to dream, fresh perspectives and courage to challenge status quo are needed to address complex problems.

We are in a time of such crises that our young people are facing a future of absence of opportunities with the way things are going. Surveys indicate that the present generation of African youth have lost faith in the current state of affairs and are seeking new paths. Crises often force people to step outside the norm and disrupt traditions, breaking down barriers that have taken years to overcome. For this reason, involving young people to be the engine of change is the key.

Important to note is that policies must be in place to enhance a favorable environment for the development of bold innovative initiatives spearheaded by the youth.
